(Principal Dassein Design Bureau) AFTER/GLOW carries forward the ongoing inquiry of German-based interdisciplinary artist Iman Skyone concerning entangled boundaries between the analog and the digital. In this solo presentation, Skyone explores the friction arising in the threshold of our encounter with the ceaseless mediated present—articulated through vivid, electric colors colliding and bleeding; geometric shapes pushing and pulling in dialogues; and a diverse array of materials meeting in layers. Translating the digital screen—all its glow and vibrancy—onto physical surfaces, Skyone lingers on what remains after the glare recedes. Although catalyzed by the digital screen, the featured works refuse to be confined by its compact scale and smoothness. Rather than springing from predetermined blueprints, they emerge from instinctive gestures in the studio—shapes unfold and multiply, shifting in scale, format, and medium across the eight pieces. This trajectory pits the frictionless stream of technological mediation against the density of matter, compelling the speed of digital data to fracture across the thresholds of human perception. What registers throughout this body of work is not a sudden departure from the screen, but an evolving arc toward a living, physical presence. Even from the earliest iterations, an underlying current has persistently pushed against its slick surface, reintroducing the human factor through idiosyncratic rhythms (or, in Skyone’s word: funkiness), material slips, and tactile friction.
